7 months ago, there was a BookMooch survey that lots of you responded to. The class that was doing the survey has sent me a lot of interesting info, and I’ll be posting the results in a blog entry soon.

The class and its professor/moocher (Karl Fast) has designed a followup survey. He wrote me to say:

The goal of this new project is to collect useful information for
improving how BookMooch encourages positive behavior and discourages
negative behavior. Our research in the fall suggested the current
system works, but some problem areas persist and the site could do
more to encourage certain behaviors.

Please take a moment to fill out the new survey.

BookMooch Lottery

June 1, 2009

Lotteryrobot
The third annual BookMooch lottery is now over!

As in previous years (2007, 2008) half the points bet in the lottery will go to charity.

There’s a slightly different spin on the charity this year, namely:

1) you can indicate which charity you want to nominate for points

2) instead of winners being randomly picked from everyone, this system is more like a horse race, where you pick one of the 75 author names as your “bet”. One of the author names will be picked as the winner, then everyone who “bet” on that author name will be a winner and share in the total pool of points (with half the pool going to charity, of course)

The 3rd BookMooch Lottery is now over! Here is what Mark, the admin who ran the Lottery, posted about the outcome:

Jodi Picoult was randomly drawn from the list of Librarything’s most popular authors as listed on the 2009 Lottery page.

61 tickets were purchased with Jodi Picoult as the chosen author.

2704 points were donated from many hundreds of Bookmooch members, so each winning ticket had a value of 44 points, half of which will go to the Bookmooch charity each winning member chose.
